My Safe Florida Home Grant Up to $10,000 Toward a Stronger Roof
A state grant — not a loan. It doesn't get paid back.
The My Safe Florida Home program helps qualified Florida homeowners harden their roof against hurricanes — with a free wind-mitigation inspection and grant funding of up to $10,000. As a licensed Florida roofer, Gulf Harbor does the qualifying work. Funds are limited and first come, first served.
State Hurricane-Readiness Grant
A Stronger Roof, Mostly Paid For by the State
My Safe Florida Home (MSFH) is a state-run program that helps Florida homeowners harden their homes against hurricanes. It starts with a free wind-mitigation inspection, and qualified homeowners can receive grant funding of up to $10,000 toward eligible roof and storm-protection work — money that does not have to be paid back.
Funds are limited each cycle and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, so it pays to start early. As a licensed Florida roofing contractor (FL CCC1337763), Gulf Harbor performs the qualifying roof work and helps you through the process.
Do You Qualify?
These are the general criteria — your exact eligibility is confirmed when you apply through the state:
Condos, co-ops, mobile/manufactured homes, rentals, and second homes are generally not eligible. Grant priority and income tiers are set by the state each cycle.
Pair the Grant with PACE to Get Close to Cost-Neutral
Here's the strategy we use to help homeowners get a brand-new, storm-ready roof with little to no out-of-pocket cost:
Results vary by home, insurer, and county. PACE is available in participating counties, including Sarasota and Manatee. Learn more about PACE financing →

My Safe Florida Home FAQ
Is the My Safe Florida Home grant really free money?
Yes. My Safe Florida Home is a state grant, not a loan — it does not have to be paid back. It also includes a free wind-mitigation inspection. Funding is limited each cycle and awarded first come, first served, subject to eligibility.
Who qualifies for the My Safe Florida Home grant?
General criteria include: a Florida single-family, site-built, owner-occupied home with a homestead exemption, an insured value of $700,000 or less, a construction permit before January 1, 2008, and current taxes and mortgage. Homeowners age 60+ and lower-income households receive priority. Exact eligibility is confirmed on application at mysafeflhome.com.
How much is the My Safe Florida Home grant?
The matching grant generally reimburses two-thirds of eligible mitigation costs, up to $10,000 in state funds, subject to available funding. Lower-income homeowners may qualify without providing matching funds. Amounts and rules are set by the state each program cycle.
Can I combine My Safe Florida Home with PACE financing?
Often, yes. Many homeowners pair the MSFH grant with PACE financing so there's no large out-of-pocket cost, and the lower insurance premium from a stronger roof helps offset the monthly PACE payment — getting close to cost-neutral. PACE is available in participating counties, including Sarasota and Manatee.
